Safeguarding in Sport: Partnering with eThekwini PRC

The Prime Sports Development Trust, through its collaboration with the eThekwini Municipality’s Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Unit, is actively supporting the rollout of safeguarding courses across the city. These courses are part of a broader initiative to ensure that all sporting environments in eThekwini are safe, inclusive, and protective — especially for children and vulnerable participants.

In line with national regulations, all sport structures are required to implement safeguarding policies. Prime is assisting with the training and education of coaches, administrators, and volunteers to meet these standards and promote a culture of safety in sport.

Course focus areas include:

Understanding safeguarding responsibilities
Recognising and responding to abuse
Implementing child protection policies
Creating safe and inclusive sporting spaces
Reporting procedures and ethical conduct
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to athlete welfare and community development, ensuring that sport in eThekwini is not only competitive but also safe and empowering for all.
